A Simple Delete, Nothing is Concrete

2023

5ft x 5ft

Acrylic, cardboard, pumice, and canvas

A Simple Delete, Nothing is Concrete # 6 cites Rosi Braidotti’s 2019 lecture on Necropolitics and Ways of Dying. Her distinction between ‘we’ and ‘human’ resonated with the anxiety left due to the pandemic; it drew me out, allowing me to see the end for this compilation of whispers. Humanity was not one; I had to crack myself into place to envision making in convergence. The center panel incorporates murmurs and echoes of Leonardo Drew’s interview on Art 21’s “Investigation” episode (which I obsessively listened to on my commute to work). Each panel can stand on its own, but together they ensemble a cacophony of reflective memory and research.

Impulsive notes jotted down after having my brain picked at during open studio. I do my best to regurgitate as many phrases as possible that cross my path during conversations. I accumulate these notes in my studio so I can reference them in later work.

An ominous love letter to the future while dreaming of the Antelope Valley landscape. I was obsessed with Georgia O’Keefe during this time.

Arctic Play marks my return to painting. Prior to this I had focused on photo, performance, video, and text. Completely tossing my writing to form practice to the side; Arctic Play was the driving force for my research and writing for the next year.
